Surgient Selects Blue Coat Appliances to Accelerate Access to Virtualized Environments Between Continents
Blue Coat ProxySG Appliances Speed Distribution of Massive Virtual Machine Images Across WAN While Decreasing Bandwidth Consumption by Four Hundred Times
SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 21, 2008 - Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that Surgient, the leader in Virtual Lab Management Applications for software testing, training and evaluation, has deployed Blue Coat® ProxySG® appliances for accelerating web and customer content traffic between its data centers in North America, Europe, and Australia across its Wide Area Network (WAN).
"Providing access to on-demand virtual lab environments to users located around the globe requires us to cache, accelerate, and control critical customer content and traffic as much as possible," said Tim Tyndall, Principal Systems Engineer, Surgient. "Blue Coat ProxySG appliances have made a significant difference in speeding up the transfer of that traffic and the amount of bandwidth required to move it. The result is an increased performance of our software platform across a WAN and major reduction in our bandwidth costs."
In addition to accelerating virtual lab traffic across the WAN, Blue Coat ProxySG appliances along with the SG client are used to transfer virtual machine images from off-site customer locations to Surgient Data Centers via the Internet. The virtual machine images, often in excess of 10 gigabytes, now transfer with a reduction of up to 400% bandwidth and at rates three to four times faster over the Internet. Blue Coat SG appliances also provide Web security and policy control for Surgient's Internet access.
"Our deployment at Surgient offers a dramatic example of the power of Blue Coat WAN Application Delivery to add significant business value through accelerating applications and reducing bandwidth consumption," said Kevin Biggs, senior vice president, worldwide sales, Blue Coat Systems. "In addition, we provide WAN optimization together with Web security and policy control for a complete solution to reclaim the WAN and Internet gateway for business productivity."
