Joint Solution Extends Security from Endpoints to the Data Center to Enforce Corporate IT Policies at Network and Application Layers

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 18, 2008 - Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that Impulse Point has joined the Blue Coat Technology Integration Partner Program to provide customers with a security solution that extends protection from the data center to endpoints on the network. The combination of Blue Coat® ProxySG® appliances and Impulse Point's Safe•Connect security service authenticates users at both the network and application layers for comprehensive, consistent enforcement of corporate IT policies.

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances provide the visibility, control and security that enterprises require to understand applications. Impulse Point's Safe•Connect network access control (NAC) solution can be delivered as a premises-based (hardware or VMware appliance) or cloud-based operationally managed service that authenticates users and enforces network privileges. As an interoperable solution, ProxySG appliances authenticate at the application level and redirect traffic to the Safe•Connect service for network-based authentication, providing enterprises with security from the endpoints of the network to its core.

"As enterprises contend with Web-based threats, they need a flexible and scalable security solution that extends protection throughout the distributed enterprise," said Bethany Mayer, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Blue Coat Systems. "Blue Coat and Impulse Point have combined to offer enterprises a comprehensive security solution that operates at both the network and application layers to ensure compliance throughout the organization."

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances provide visibility into application performance and enable enterprises to establish granular control over those applications on a user, content, group or other basis. As an enforcement point at the enterprise Internet gateway for all Web requests, ProxySG also utilizes up-to-date information on emerging malware threats to prevent outside threats from infiltrating the network. By partnering with Impulse Point, Blue Coat extends that protection down to the end user, ensuring uniform security and compliance with corporate IT policies without increased management complexity.

Safe•Connect allows Impulse Point to deliver network access control as a managed service to simplify deployment and provide a high level of scalability that allows customers to seamlessly add new users, groups and authentication policies without reconfiguring the network. Impulse Point's Safe•Connect authenticates endpoints on the network and enforces assigned privileges, quarantining those that are not in compliance with corporate IT policies, such as those with out of date anti-virus protection or operating system security patches.

"Delivering NAC-as-a-Service (NaaS) from the cloud allows us to provide customers with a scalable solution for authenticating access privileges and enforcing corporate best practices at network endpoints," said Dennis Muley, President of Impulse Point. "Together, Impulse Point and Blue Coat can leverage the promise of cloud computing to deliver an integrated solution that allows enterprises to efficiently implement end-to-end security without increasing management complexities, which represent the main industry inhibitors to NAC adoption."

The Blue Coat Technology Integration Partner Program is designed to promote solutions that help organizations build a flexible and scalable application infrastructure. By partnering with best-in-class vendors to deliver interoperable solutions, Blue Coat offers customers a wide range of options for comprehensive Secure Web Gateway and WAN optimization deployments.
