Blue Coat ProxySG Appliance Provides Visibility into Encrypted Traffic for Comprehensive Protection Against Data Loss

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 19, 2008 - Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that Signal Financial Federal Credit Union has deployed a combination of Blue Coat and Code Green appliances to secure the account and personal information of its more than 35,000 members. With Blue Coat® ProxySG® and Code Green Content Inspection appliances, Signal Financial is preventing data loss through email communications as well as the encrypted SSL traffic in which data transfers typically hide.

"To maintain compliance with federal regulations we need to guarantee that our members' personal information does not leave the corporate network. To do this effectively means you have to examine all the outbound traffic on our network, including encrypted traffic," said Stephen Jones, Chief Technology Officer at Signal Financial Federal Credit Union. "With the Blue Coat and Code Green solution we have proactively eliminated over 98 percent of our potential data leaks to help ensure that our members' information stays safe. Our investment in this technology has put us ahead of the curve with respect to regulations since it's only a matter of time before this layer of security will be mandated."

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances provide visibility into HTTP, HTTPS and FTP traffic as well as SSL applications by decrypting that traffic for inspection. Code Green's Content Inspection appliances combine content inspection, policy creation and management, and e-mail encryption in a single appliance, simplifying deployment. Used together, Blue Coat appliances inspect Web and encrypted traffic from Signal Financial's six locations while Code Green appliances provide inspection of the decrypted traffic as well as all email and enforcement of the IT data policies established by the credit union.

"Today, as much as 40 percent of traffic on the network is encrypted, and that is going to continue to increase as companies turn to external applications such as software as a service," said Kevin Biggs, senior vice president of Worldwide Sales at Blue Coat Systems. "Decrypting SSL traffic with the Blue Coat ProxySG appliance prior to inspection is the only sure way to provide comprehensive protection against data loss and ensure that sensitive information is not leaving the corporate network."

Code Green is part of the Blue Coat Technology Integration Partner Program, which is designed to promote solutions that help organizations build a flexible and scalable application infrastructure. The Blue Coat and Code Green solution has been deployed by customers worldwide, including Central Tanshi Online Trading and Enhanced Software Products.
